1.     Hi Tanya! Please describe your blog and what your motivations were for starting such an awesome endeavor.

I started my blog in January 2014. It was my New Year’s Resolution to learn something new and conquer technology. The blog was born!

2.     What type of person is your blog geared to reach? Who is your ideal audience?  Who would you like to help with your articles and advice?

The TanyaFoster.com reader is typically 40+ female who likes luxury. They are sophisticated and expect the best. My reader also enjoys it when I find new beauty devised or share a skincare treatment with them.

3.     What other bloggers/blogs inspire you?

Oh gosh, there are so many. I would say the only blogger I was following before I launched my site was Rach Parcell of  Pink Peonies. Her aesthetic never disappoints. Then I started to add more and still follow about 20 bloggers daily.

4.     How do you balance life and your blog?

Blogging is only one of the things I do. It helps that I started my blog when I was becoming an empty nester. I’m also a non-profit consultant. Since I work from home, I manage my own time. I absolutely love this time in life!

Tanya Foster

5.     What are some of your favorite articles that you have written?

The ones where I get a bit more personal seem to resonate with my audience. Here are a few of them:

6.     What are your goals/dreams/ambitions for your blog and yourself?

I would love to grow this little space of mine and continue to help my readers. It’s a lot of work but I absolutely love it. I think if you are in the digital space just to make money, you’re in it for the wrong reason.

Tanya Foster

7.     Who is your favorite style icon?

I don’t really have one. But I do love the style of Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and  Sofia Loren. Perhaps I missed my mark in fashion and need to be in the 1950’s. Such a great time for sophisticated style and fashion!

8.     What is the best piece of advice that you have even been given?

“When God closes a door, he opens a window.” That one has gotten me through a lot of things in life.  Specifically for blogging this one was very sound: “Stay true to yourself and they will find you.”  It seems like it would take forever for the blog to take off but saying true to yourself is the #1 thing I would tell new bloggers.

9.     How would you best describe your style?

Minimalist, classic and monochromatic. I don’t really like prints. They tend to wear me instead of me wearing them.

10.     What inspires you to write articles for your blog?

I publish a blog post 5 times a week (sometimes 6) so I try to mix it up. My verticles are fashion, beauty, lifestyle and travel. I try not to have more than 40% sponsored posts and I only accept sponsored content that I truly believe in. If I try a new product, I try it for 2 weeks before blogging about it. Only items that I like will make it to the blog. There are hundreds of products that I have tried that didn’t make it. I feel a huge responsibility to be 100% honest with my reader. Once you compile all those directives, its easy to write content.

11.     What is your background?

I have a BSED and taught high school for 2 years. I decided that I didn’t want to live my life dictated by a bell schedule and got a job in the business world. Once I was married, I stayed home to raise our children. It’s the most important job in the world! Like I said earlier, they year I was going to become an empty nester, I launder the blog.

12.     Since starting your blog, what have been some of your greatest achievements?

I would say getting published in other publications. It’s a HUGE honor to be interviewed.

Here is one that just happened:

Over 40 And Rocking Instagram

13.     What are your future plans for your blog?

Just keep up the daily work and let it grow organically.

14.     What advice would you give up-and-coming fashion bloggers who are just starting out?

The same advice that was given to me. Stay true to yourself! The digital space can be hard to navigate. Find a niche and carve our something special to cover on your site. Consistency is key. You can’t decide that you want to give up after 4 months. I’ve been at it for 3 1/2 years and I’m still figuring it out.

Tanya Foster

15.     What advice would you give women who seek to become more fashionable or stylish?

It’s the same advice I give myself. Stay true to your style. You can try a trend that fits you but don’t try to incorporate everything new. You will overwhelm yourself, spend a bunch of money on things you will not wear and get frustrated easily. For example, if you have never worn animal print but want to try it, try purchasing once piece and incorporating it into your wardrobe. Perhaps start with a leopard print clutch bag. Accessories are the easiest way to incorporate a fashion trend.

Catherine Colegrave

  1. Hi Catherine! Please describe your blog Discover Your Style and what your motivations were for starting such an awesome endeavor.

Discover Your Style is all about inspiring women to find and embrace their own style.  Many women are unfortunately unhappy with their bodies and looks and often feel overwhelmed with fashion and beauty in general.  My blog and services aim to help and encourage these women to enjoy their own unique style journey.

  1. What type of person is your blog geared to reach? Who is your ideal audience?  Who would you like to help with your articles and advice?

Discover Your Style predominantly helps Mums who may have hit a ‘style rut’ which happens a lot – when the little ones come along it’s all to easy to put others first.  I’ve coached many people like this, even mums with grown up children who have been overwhelmed by style so much that they have just accepted dressing down and blending in.  Having a style revival can completely transform you and give you unstoppable confidence.

  1. What other bloggers/blogs inspire you?

I love your Blog, of course, Beth because it’s so diverse and you constantly keep it fresh.  I’m also a big fan of www.mymidlifefashion.com, www.learnsavvy.co, www.disignthelifestyleyoudesire.co.uk and www.ozbeautyexpert.com.

  1. How do you balance motherhood and your blog?

Finding the right balance for any Mum is super difficult, I feel I’m very lucky as I can fit my blog around the kids., don’t get me wrong I do put the hours in and I’ve had to drop the small stuff though like keeping my home immaculate, even though I’m a style coach I’m still a busy mum and certainly don’t look glamorous every day – I focus on looking fresh and healthy, for me I’d rather jog for 30 minutes than preening myself – exercise and healthy eating will always give you a better glow than trowelling on make-up.  Being a working mum is all about prioritizing and being super organized, I’m careful to set limits on the hours I work and ensure I look after myself.

  1. What are some of your favorite articles that you have written?

I’m a guest blogger for www.learnsavvy.co, I also appeared in a book called The Journey of Vivacious Mum which I’m really proud of.  Before I created Discover Your Style I knew I had a huge passion for writing and sharing knowledge I wrote an article for Tiny Buddah http://tinybuddha.com/blog/beat-anxiety-can-live-life-fullest/ about my experience with anxiety and panic attacks and how to overcome them.

  1.  What are your goals/dreams/ambitions for your blog and yourself?

I want to grow my tribe even further and really help and inspire women anywhere in the world.  I’ve created my blog to be easily accessible, open and honest, in the future I’d like to introduce Vlogs and Makeup tutorials.

  1. Who is your favorite style icon?

Ooh I have a few but my top three are Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn and Iris Apfel – all because they have created and fallen in love with their own unique style, I really admire each of them.

  1. What is the best piece of advice that you have even been given?

I remember my Mum always saying ‘there’s no such word as can’t which I interpret as you can achieve anything you set your mind to. I remind myself of this every time I feel disheartened.

  1. How would you best describe your style?

Easy, effortless, put-together, fresh, creative

  1. What inspires to you to write articles for Discover Your Style?

I just have immense passion for it, and if you have passion for something it comes very easily.

Catherine Colegrave

  1. What is your background?

I’ve always loved fashion, I got my first sewing machine when I was 10 years old and was obsessed with making clothes.  I completed my fashion degree then went on to work in buying offices for 10 years.  I’ve always been obsessed with anything creative and enjoy painting and making things, I’m so inspired by creativity it literally gives me energy and happiness.  When the children were younger I opened a shop called www.little-willows.co.uk which was a creative hub for kids.

  1. Since starting your blog, what have been some of your greatest achievements?

Reaching thousands of people through my blog and social media platforms.  Meeting other inspirational bloggers and sharing experiences.  Being part of the book The Journey of Vivacious Mum and guest posting for the likes of yourself Beth, Tiny Buddah and Learn Savvy.  I’ve also won an award for best blogger with VIP Bloggers.

  1. What are your future plans for Discover Your Style?

I want to reach more people, write more articles and offer more free advice and inspiration.  I’m really interested in adding makeup to my blog and collaborating with more brands.

  1. What advice would you give up-and-coming fashion bloggers who are just starting out?

Make sure you have the passion then just go for it.  Find your own style, have your unique market and be yourself . . . steer away from looking at other blogs just work on creating your own, it doesn’t happen overnight – you need to be dedicated, flexible and ever learning!  It’s a great experience!

  1. What advice would you give women who seek to become more fashionable or stylish?

Make it a priority to set time aside for yourself.  One thing I tell my clients is to spend 20-30 minutes every Sunday getting their outfits organized for the forthcoming week.  Embrace your personal style and make it fun rather than a chore.  As with everything knowledge is power . . . find out everything you can about your style personality, body shape and best colors.  There’s plenty of free information online – I have lots of free resources and courses at www.discoveryourstyle.co.uk.
