Why Do We Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?

St. Patrick’s Day or the Feast of St. Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland, is a cultural and religious observance and celebration of the date of his death in AD 461.  Saint Patrick’s Day was made an official Christian feast day in the early 17th century and is observed by the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion (especially the Church of Ireland), the Eastern Orthodox Church, and the Lutheran Church.

The day commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, and celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish in general Celebrations generally involve public parades and festivals and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks. Christians also attend church services and historically the Lenten restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol were lifted for the day, which encouraged and propagated the holiday’s tradition of alcohol consumption.

Pantone’s Color of the Year

Most fittingly for St. Patrick’s Day, in late 2016, Pantone selected Greenery as their Color of the Year for 2017.  It’s the perfect shade of green!

My St. Patrick’s Day Outfit

I did a flatlay of my St. Patrick’s Day outfit and I am very excited to show it to you.

The Blouse

Green Printed Blouse

This green patterned blouse is from Ann Taylor.  I have had it for a couple of years and now seems like a great time to debut it!  Also, bold prints are a big trend this Spring so why not wear this one?  It’s a blended texture of silk and synthetic fibers.

The Skirt

Leather Skirt

This leather skirt is also by Ann Taylor.  Leather was all over the Fall/Winter 2017 runways so why not get a jump on the trend?

The Jewelry

Also by Ann Taylor, this necklace and matching earrings go with the blouse perfectly and they are very festive for St. Patrick’s Day!

The Shoes

Gucci Shoes

I love my Gucci pumps!  They are so stylish and comfortable and will go well the entire outfit.  The neural interlocking “G” goes well with almost everything that I have!

The Handbag

Coach Green Bag

This handbag is by Coach and was purchased at Nordstrom.  I love the color because it’s so vibrant and, of course, green is one of my favorite colors.  It’s perfect for St. Patrick’s Day and any other day because it’s so versatile.

Black & White Heels by Ann Taylor A Nostalgic Shoe with a Modern Twist

6

I adore these Black & White heels that I purchased from Ann Taylor.  They turn any dull, lifeless outfit into a fun, hip ensemble.  For example, as an attorney, if I were to appear in court or at a deposition in one of my black suits, I could really add quite a bit of style with these shoes and it would sill be professional and appropriate.  That is exactly why I bought them!  I believe it is the details that make the outfit whether it be a scarf, a pair of earrings, or, in this case, a pair of shoes.

Another reason that I love these shoes is because they remind me of the Spectator shoes won by men in the 1920s and 1930s.  I absolutely love that style of shoe and the time period.  The Spectator is so distinct and very recognizable as the shoe from that time period.  My shoes are not an exact match to the traditional Spectator shoe, but the front design reminds me of something that might be worn during that time period.

One big advantage that this shoe has over many of my other heels is that it is very comfortable to wear for long periods of time.  They are also easy to walk in if you must traverse a large city or a whole lot a real estate in one day.  I believe this to be true of all of Ann Taylor‘s shoes as all that I have ever owned had been comfortable and easy to walk in.
